Hello! I have a two year old son who needs dental work. The dentist is going to work on him in two sessions, half an hour each. He is going to be placed in a papoose board, but I am not allowed in the treatment area. I am just wondering what are the reasons for this? He is going to be given anesthetic only, and was also wondering if any complications can arise from this? Thank you. Sharon

Dear Sharon,
The only problem with placing a two-year-old in a papoose board for dental treatment is that they might remember the experience later on.
A pediatric dentist would normally give a restrained child some Versed (Midazolam) to help it forget the experience.
Some dentists don't want parents in the room during treatment because they know that parents don't like to see their children cry.
