my son chipped his tooth, at the time he had no flouride {ever}, and was taking a triple dose of iron. I took him to the doctor, because a dentist woulnt see him, he was too young one said. doc said his teeth are healthy, they have some iron stains, he gave me a referral for a pediatric dentist, said see if they will bond the end. I took him to the closest my insurance will allow, (2 hours away) the dr. took one look and said he is at the beginning stages of decay. baby has had no bottles, dr. said because of no flouride, and me breastfeeding him before sleep they are starting. he showed me the cap with the white front, said this is what he'll use. said if it was only 2 teeth he'd do it there but since he has 6 he has to go to the hospital. he sceduled him for april hasnt informed me of the procedures or anything. i dont know what to do. Is this safe ? should I have a choice in where he gets this done, I am so afraid to have him do it there. please tell me if a 14 mth. old can have this done in a dentist office? his teeth are whole with a brownish line up near the gum line, only 1 is chipped

Dear fustratedmom,
It is safe to have dental treatment completed under general anesthesia in the hospital.
In my own practice, however, I usually find that I can do dental treatment on infants in the dental office.

Fluoridated water is a good idea at any age.
If there is no fluoride in the local water, then you can either buy fluoridated water OR you can get a perscription for fluoride drops for infants 6 months and older.
