I HAVE CONSULTED 2 PEDIATRIC DENTISTS FOR THE VITAMIN STAINS ON MY 2 YR OLD SON'S TEETH. BOTH SAID THERE ARE ALREADY CAVITIES ON HIS TEETH AND THEY NEED TO CROWN 3 UPPER FRONT TEETH AND PUT FILLINGS ON SOME. THE FIRST ADVISED AN IV SEDATION. THE SECOND, RECTAL + NASAL DROPS FORM OF SEDATION. I AM VERY WOORIED, I CAN'T DECIDE. I WANT TO FIX THIS PROBLEM RIGHT AWAY FOR MY SON'S SAKE BUT MY HUSBAND IS NOT COOPERATIVE. HE JUST WANTS TO WAIT FOR THE BABY TEETH TO FALL OFF. HE SAID OUR SON IS TOO YOUNG TO UNDERGO SEDATION. BESIDES HE IS ASTHMATIC SO THE PROCEDURE MIGHT BE DANGEROUS FOR HIM. HOW CAN I BE SURE THAT SEDATION IS SAFE FOR MY 2 YR OLD ASTHMATIC KID? PLS HELP...

Kristine, I have never been in your situation, my son is sceduled for a rootcanal. But I wanted you to know that I hope everything works ,out ok. I have heard that IV sedation is last resort, but like i said I don't know first hand. When are you expecting to do the procedure? My son is due Oct 5. I think they will do general anesthetic. I will let you know how it turns out if there is any way I can help you I will let you know. Good Luck.

THANKS! MY DENTISTS DIDN'T GIVE ME ANY OPTION BECAUSE OF MY SON'S AGE, FOR SURE HE WOULDN'T COOPERATE. I'M STILL THINKING ABOUT THE DANGER OF THE PROCEDURE SO I HAVE NOT CALLED FOR AN APPOINTMENT YET. MAYBE I'LL WAIT HOW YOURS TURN OUT. ACTUALLY A ROOT CANAL WILL BE DONE ON HIM ALSO WHEN DURING THE PROCEDURE THEY SEE THAT A CAVITY HAS ALREADY AFFECTED HIS NERVE. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED, I APPRECIATE IT VERY MUCH.

My 2 year old daugther was in the same situation. I know how scary the situation is. She had her 4 front teeth crowned and other cavites filled. She had GA and it turned out fine. I suggest if you feel really uncomfortable then you should get a couple of other opinions, but I do know that my baby's dentist said that GA was the best option due to her age.

THANKS, JESSICA! IT LESSENS MY WORRIES KNOWING THERE ARE OTHER PARENTS WHO ARE IN THE SAME SITUATION. BUT ISN'T GA MORE DANGEROUS/COMPLICATED? DIDN'T YOUR DENTIST GIVE YOU AN OPTION FOR SEDATION? MY HUSBAND IS IN NEW YORK RIGHT NOW WHILE I'M HERE IN MANILA. I'M SURE HE WON'T AGREE WITH THE PROCEDURE. WAS YOUR HUSBAND SUPPORTIVE? I'M GLAD YOU DID NOT ENCOUNTER ANY PROBLEM AND YOUR KID IS NOW OKAY

BTW we are Phil too...Do you live in the US or Phil?
My Husband was very supportive, we just wanted to fix the problem ASAP. There are risk involve with a GA, but the Dr put it this way-GA is just as dangerous a driving out on the road. My dr said this is the only way to go because of her age.
Email me if you have any other questions.
