Fiery red gums in an infant usually means one thing... oral herpes (also called herpetic gingivostomatitis).
These infants usually have a fever, are irritable and cry, and won't eat. The tongue or palate will show small blisters which have formed there.
Infants usually get the virus from day care, another infant, or even a parent who has a subacute case of oral herpes.
You should see your physician or pediatric dentist about this.

Question... My god son has red gums but there seems to be no pain involved. His gums have been red for some time now. He is going on 7 years old. Should his mother be alarmed of possible disease or infection?

There are lots of reasons to have red gums. The most common is bacterial infection also irritations to the gum can be a cause. The use of harsh mouth washes and tooth pastes can cause the gum to become red.

The most common cause of red gums is bacteria growing and flourishing within the mouth unchecked. And also there are some other reasons such as being sick, certain diseases, Spicy food, Irritation, Allergic reaction, swollen gums, infected gums, Gum sores and dehydration. Better to have a total check up near dentist to get cure of red gums.

Get to know your gums, that flesh surrounding and holding your teeth in place inside of your mouth. Healthy, well-cared-for gums appear pink and firm. But there's more to your gums than you might think.

I think you need to check it with a consultant to be sure that your niece is totally ok.

There are many reasons to have red gum. I think the main reason should be a kind of infection in the mouth.
